Tetrahedron Danglies

These were the first set of origami earrings I made. I got some craft wire and hooks at a local craft store. In the future, I'd like to try making my own hooks from the craft wire. Perhaps 3d print a jig? There is a wire run through the middle with a loop at either end. One is glued to the bottom of the model, the other comes through the top for the hook to attach. These I also coated with diluted clear nail polish and finished with a layer of anti-shine matte varnish. I think the matte looks much nicer, better reflects what the paper looked like before the nail polish. It took me a few attempts until I got a unit size that I was happy with, that gave a final shape that wasn't too big or small.
Of the danglies, these are my favorites so far. I have worn them the most, and they have fared decently well. There is starting to be some fraying? around some edges. I might give them another coat or two of nail polish, and then revarnish them. They are still fragile enough to be easily crushed if one is not careful.
Design
- 6 unit tetrahedron from Tomoko Fuse's Unit Polyhedron Origami. I love her work, and it is what has gotten me into modular origami, and expanded in my mind what origami is. Units started from ~2-2.5cm square paper.
